FAQ - Defensive Driving School

In the fall of 2024, the Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS) mailed letters to parents who once had an open dependency and/or severance case.

Did you receive a letter? Visit the DCS letter page for more information.

I am not responsible for the violation I received.  Can I have a hearing in court and then go to defensive driving school later if I lose?

No, you may go to court or you may attend a defensive driving course, not both.  One of the purposes of the defensive driving program is to reduce court caseloads.  You must complete a defensive driving school class at least 7 days BEFORE your hearing date.
